The Windows 7 Regional Themes are a highly nostalgic collection of location-specific desktop customizations created by Microsoft for the launch of Windows 7. To ensure the operating system felt personalized worldwide, Microsoft created 20 distinct regional theme packs, each tailored to a specific country or territory. This collection spans 240 high-resolution scenic wallpapers showcasing breathtaking landscapes, historic architecture, and local landmarks. The Structure of the Collection

Microsoft divided the collection equally into built-in and downloadable segments to keep installations lightweight:

20 Preinstalled Themes: Included natively in the Windows 7 installation file (install.wim), but limited by language. For instance, the English release preinstalled 5 regional themes: Australia, Canada, Great Britain, South Africa, and the United States.

20 Downloadable Themes: Released alongside the OS on the Microsoft Personalization Gallery website. These provided an alternate set of 6 wallpapers for the exact same 20 regions.

6 Wallpapers Per Theme: Every single one of the 40 total themes featured a curated slideshow of exactly 6 regional photographs. The Hidden “MCT” Folders

During a standard setup, Windows 7 only activated the theme matching the user’s selected region. However, tech enthusiasts quickly discovered that the remaining preinstalled regional themes were hidden deep inside the system. Windows 7 – Windows Wallpaper Wiki – Miraheze
